Help Understanding Future Points
Trying to get my head around this just in case it is needed.
We have a booking for this August using 2019 & 2020 points. We have 5 points from our 2020 allocation left and our use year is April. My DD is getting married on 27th March 2021, if I were to offer if they would like me to try to book Hawaii for their honeymoon, around 250 points, would I be able to do this? We have 162 points annually. Thanks

So I take it you banked your 2019 points into 2020 to make the August 2020 booking using some of them?
You only have 5 points left in 2020, if correct you will not get more until April 2021. As you only have 5 left in 2020 if this booking is in March 2021 then you could borrow the 2021 points which come onto your contract in April 2021 but that will only give you 167 points. So no, if they go in March you wouldn’t have enough points. If they went in April, your 2021 points would come on (162j anyway, you could bank the 5 you have left (167 total) then you could borrow the rest from April 2022. If the nights go partly into April, you may be able to borrow enough for the nights in April 2021 from your 2022 allotment, and it might work but you’d have to sit down and work out how many points you’d need in March, then April and work out if the 2021 allotment is enough, to cover the March 2021 days.

As above, you would need to "make" the Honeymoon after 1st April to allow a "Use" & "Borrow"

Yes I just edited mine a bit to also reflect it may span March and April so they may still be able to do it even if going in March depending if March could be covered.

Having a look on the DVC calculator it would work out as:
3 days in March, 63 points Hotel Room or 72 points for a Deluxe Studio. Then the rest of the days in April as 168 points a Hotel Room or 192 points for the Deluxe Studio. Thanks

Ok so you may need to do some banking etc. When you say hotel room are you mean using DVC points to book standard hotels? So presumably this honeymoon starts 29 March?

On the DVC points chart for Hawaii it lists the accommodation as Hotel Room, Deluxe Studio and then 1 bed etc.
Yes they would head off on Honeymoon on 29th March 2021, although they might like a couple of days in New York first and if they did this it would mean arriving in Hawaii 1st or 2nd April 2021.

Ok so I think, if they go on 29 March and you’ve calculated the points correctly, you need to borrow 67 points from 2021 for the studio as you have 5 left and you say it’s 72 for March.
I think you’d have to make 2 bookings given you span a use year. Member services can do it on the phone, but in reality what they would be doing is doing exactly what I describe below and making 2 separate reservations, the difference being they may (not 100% on that) be able to do it all in one go on the 29 August when the 29 March booking window opens. But given the complexity of this, I’d personally be a little worried they’d mess it up and would prefer to do it myself online- but I’m a control freak What I’d probably do is borrow in that 67 once you know they want to go on the 29th March and book that on 29th August, bang on 7 months (although you’ll be fine with availability in Alauni) then on 1 September, I’d book the April nights. You’ll now only have 95 in 2021 so you’d need to borrow in the 97 you need from 2022. Again assuming a studio. Then ring member services and ask them to merge the two bookings into one. If they go in April, simply bank your 5 you have left over now giving you 167 and borrow from 2022 the difference.

My experience of booking Aulani a couple of times is that I’ve never been able to secure a hotel room at seven months. Studios of some view were always available but cost slightly more. Just something to bear in mind.

Yes I was coming on to say the same thing as Karen - hotel rooms are generally booked by owners and very often the lowest standard view studio rooms too. The most likely available at 7 months out will be the ocean view studios (in terms of the smaller rooms) as they are the most expensive
