Iceland April planning
Morning,
We are going to Reykjavík in April- too late for the Northern lights sadly but we are staying in Reykjavík for 4 days and hope to do as much as possible. Does anyone have advice on trips, must dos etc and links to companies have used to book day trips ? We are not getting a car. Thank in advance. Jane |

Probably the best thing we did in Iceland was the golden circle tour. It was well worth it and I’d do that again if I had to pick one.
We also visited the blue lagoon which was incredible, it’s a tourist trap but it was so good! All of ours trips we booked through grayline, they are quite a big company over there, they do lots of trips. One tip I’d say is if you book the day trips then buy some food from the supermarket like sandwiches, crisps ect... the locations did have food places, but they were quite pricey and crowded. You’re welcome. I’m just typing up my trip report and remembered another, I read before I went that the tap water is filtered down from the mountains and that is nice and cold to drink, so we took a refillable water bottle with us so that we could fill it up before we went out, just incase we didn’t want to or couldn’t buy a drink.

If you like a beer it's worth visiting the duty free shop on arrival in Iceland, they had a pretty good selection of cans and bottles at reasonable prices. Happy hour at the hotel bar brought things down to London type prices.
Grayline and Reykjavic Excursions, RE for short seemed to be the 2 main operators over there, they would pick up/drop off to/from your hotel in a smaller bus and take you to the main bus station to join the larger coach for their trips. We hired a car and got around fine, it worked out cheaper to hire a car than pay for transfers to/from the airport and despite it being a snowy December the roads were fine and we had no issues. |

Hi I've copied my response to a couple of similar Iceland threads below - hope it helps you. I went in Feb 2018.
"We stayed in Reykjavik and rented a house through Air B & B – it was about a 10-15 minute easy walk into the centre. We booked the flights through Icelandair and arrived about 3.30pm. For the transfer from the airport, we booked a private shuttle through Snaeland Travel as there was 7 of us - this took us straight onto the Blue Lagoon where we had a 2 hour stop (long enough for us!), and then the driver took us onto our accommodation. We could leave our suitcases on the minibus, and just took our hand luggage in and used the lockers for those. I took flip flops and my costume in my hand luggage and bought a package which included a towel, robe, a drink and 2 masks. One thing I would say is definitely prebook the Blue Lagoon well in advance as the timed slots book up before the day. The transport and standard admission package (entrance and mask) then was @ £89.00. I think Greyline do a similar trip to and from the airport. On the Friday we did the South Iceland, waterfalls and Black Sand Beach day trip with Greyline - grayline.is/tours/reykjavik/...beach-8706_146 @ £64.00 It was amazing and I’d definitely recommend this trip! We came back and then went out on a Northern Lights tour as this evening was our best chance of seeing them – we saw a faint light and then it became too cloudy Saturday we spent in Reykjavik visiting the Perla Museum (great café there) , Harpa Concert Hall, the Cathedral, Solar Voyager sculpture, and had fish and chips at Icelandic Fish and Chips. You can get a free shuttle bus up to the Perla Museum from outside Harpa. Sunday – we did the Golden Circle Classic Tour - grayline.is/tours/reykjavik/...ic-tour-8706_9 @ £49.00 I enjoyed this but felt it was too busy at a lot of the stops – coming back there was a huge snowstorm! Monday – Very early start back home! We all took snacks and breakfast things with us so we could have breakfast before we left each day and some snacks on the coach trips and Id recommend doing this." We also bought our wine at the duty free at the airport. One night we had Dominos pizza as it was near our accommodation and the deals weren't too badly priced. Iceland is a brilliant place to visit. |
