We’ve done two of those, first time we flew Ncl to Heathrow then to Miami, then an internal flight up to Orlando, sounds awful but was absolutely fine (and we had two young children at the time). Last year we did Ncl to Heathrow then transferred to Gatwick. Got a private transfer but I must admit I was quite stressed waiting for our bags at Heathrow. All worked out fine though! We would do either of those again. Hope you get sorted.

We used to regularly go via Glasgow direct to Orlando as it used to be £1000+ cheaper than flying from Newcastle.
They seemed to cotton on that people were doing this so raised the prices so we then used to compare the Glasgow and Manchester flights and went with what was cheapest, driving to the airport and staying overnight with parking. For the last 4-5 years we have been booking Ncl-Lhr-Mia which has worked out at very good prices without the need for a drive, hotel or parking. We check the BA prices several times a day as soon as their sale starts and the price we got this year has not dropped to anywhere near what we paid. We got 3 adults with suv for £1900 that’s into Miami non stop. That was with luggage. I found if you clear your cookies before every search you can hit on with a flash price drop but it can happen at any time and if a great price comes up you have to jump in as it can change within minutes sometimes. Only bad bit is driving up to Miami when your tired. We could wait until the next day but that’s a day of your holiday gone. Edited at 01:20 PM. |

We are doing Teesside- Amsterdam-Orlando.
They have reintroduced Teesside to Dublin this year so that’s a really good option as well. Best thing I like about Teesside is how quick it is to get in and our because it is so small. |

Hi Lyndsey, for the past nine years, bar one beginning in Dublin, we've flown VA from Manchester to either MCO or Fort Myers after letting the train take the strain to Heald Green to overnight in the Premier Inn. 10 years ago we took the train from Durham to Kings Cross, crossed the road into St Pancras and jumped on the train that calls in at LGW, luckily the return was into Man, which is not only convenient but TPE offer a 3 hour easement if ones flight is delayed.
Due to VA downgrading their PE cabins I'm researching Dublin flights for next winter. Won't fly East to Europe to then fly West. We go a few days earlier and visit friends in Dublin. Grateful Ryanair and Aer Lingus (operated by Stobart) fly from the Toon into Dublin.

We have done Heathrow to Gatwick change. We stayed overnight as from personal experience I would not risk the same day transfer on ba as you have to pick up luggage at Heathrow get to Gatwick and check in at Gatwick. If you do this you will need to factor in the cost of hotel and transfers to Gatwick. If you do coach transfers you will need to factor in £50 plus per head we used the tube and train from London and cost us £20 per head and depending on the time of day and traffic this can be quicker than a coach

I used to live in Durham and always looked at flights from the NE (Newcastle, Manchester), but it was always cheaper for me to get the train down to London and fly from there sadly... we could get really cheap train tickets if booked 3 months in advance.

We did the Heathrow VB to Gatwick transfer in 2018 after flying down from Newcastle. Used BA Transfers (nothing to do with British Airways). No issues apart from locating the driver. Wed got the later flight into Orlando so had about 5 and a half hours to get our bags, transfer check back in and have a leisurely lunch. Dead easy, but wouldn't want to do it if time was tight.

Another option is Tui from Doncaster, worked out a lot cheaper for us than NCL or MCR for a direct flight
