I much prefer talking to owner direct as you said it allows us to get a feeling for each other. And I can ask the right questions last couple of times the owner has allowed us to stay later free of charge due to no booing which I always forward on with tip or extras for cleaning/owner.
One thing I would like to know. Last year someone recommended I did some checks on villa if I went on my own route sure it was a website I could check to see if it was a legitimate villa rental and not get caught out by paying out and fining no villa on arrival. Can any of you nice guys on here remind me what this may have been. |

There are villa search sites out there (the same ones that have been there for years) where you can deal direct with the owner.
Personally I will never book a villa unless I can personally contact the owner by email and at least one phone call. |

As much as renters like to speak to owners I can assure you we like to have contact with renters (even if by direct email).
We use HomeAway etc because they still make up the bulk of our bookings but the Facebook pages are starting to pick up too. By coincidence a couple of Dibbers have stayed at our Villa but not by booking through here. |

Spot on bighal. I seem to remember years ago there was a thickish magazine produced each year full of adverts for villas etc not only worldwide but especially Florida, is that still around? I checked my local W H Smiths but no sign. After years of staying around Orlando we now prefer the Gulf Coast and unfortunately on The Dibb there are a limited number of properties in this part of Florida, understandably given the site is more centred arounf WDW.

I think owners have to be careful on these sites and potential guests a bit cunning .
We have had people send us a message saying they want to book our home but can we do a deal on the price, now obviously because of all the charges we say no and tell them this. I think that if the following day I blocked those dates the website would get suspicious. That's why in the sites adverts I have THE HAVEN VILLA AT HIGH GROVE and I always put in my replies thank you for your enquiry about THE HAVEN AT HIGH GROVE VILLA hoping the potential guest will then google The Haven Villa at High Grove and be directed to our website |

I suppose there is a way of them doing that but I’ve always asked and Its normally resulted in a name to search for on Facebook Instagram etc or I’ve had private email come back to me. Sometimes I’ve put my email in the message but Its been known not sure which site that I’ve had to put (at instead of @) or dotcom instead of .com if that makes sense.
