Sorry if this has been asked before, but what does Express ride priority mean if you are staying at some of their hotels. Would we get priority inthe Harry Potter rides or not.thanks

Forbidden Journey, Hogwarts Express and Gringotts are excluded from the express passes but the other two HP rides have express queues. Basically it's a separate queue that should get you on the ride quicker. It's unlimited when you stay at a deluxe hotel so you can ride as often as you like.

If you're staying on site at Universal (any of the hotels) you get early entry to one of the Harry Potter lands. If you're staying at Royal Pacific, Hard Rock or Portofino, you get early entry and Express passes. The Express passes can't be used on the rides mentioned by the previous poster, but can be used on most other rides. This basically means you won't queue for more than 15 minutes or so (usually less).

You don't have to stay at a Universal hotel to get an Express pass - you can pay to get it. I can't remember how much it is, I'm afraid. Maybe have a look on the Universal website.

We stayed at HRH last time so had early entry to the park which meant only those staying at the hotels got in then. We had to queue for the Harry Potter rides but it wasn't that long. Later in the day the queue was 70 minutes or more! We got to the hotel reasonably early and with our room we got front of the line passes for both the day of our stay and the following day, although we couldn't get into the room until the afternoon.
We used the early entry the second day but if you're keen you can do it both days.
Express passes only allow you to go on rides at the front of the queue once but fotl allows you to go on rides at the front as many times as you want. Our night in the hotel actually cost less than just buying the express passes.

Just to clarify...

There are two types of Express Passes that you can buy; the standard Express pass and the Express Unlimited pass.

You can buy either type in the parks. The standard Express passes can only be used once per ride whereas the Express Unlimited pass can be used as often as you like.

When you stay at some of the Universal hotels you get the Express Unlimited pass. They're no longer called FOTL passes.

So is it beneficial to book two nights in the hard rock hotel and use the early park hours to d the Harry Potter rides?

It's definitely beneficial but whether it's economical is really down to how many there are in your party.

Even one night will get you 2 days of early entry and express passes. You get these on both check in day and check out day.
