Something similar to GoPro - any advice?

My son has said he quite fancies one, but his xmas list is already through the roof, so looking for a cheaper alternative. He is 14. I haven't a clue what is good or not, or does it have to be Gopro.

Has anyone tried any alternatives that could help me out?

the SJCAM SJ4000 is a good quality gopro "knockoff"

amazon/SJCAM-FHD10...81b592ea2178f5

for a little bit more (£30 extra) you can now get the SJ5000 which does 4k. i cant vouch for it (i only own the sj4000 model) but assume its just as good quality...

amazon/SJCAM-SJ500...36c47d240ac5d0

or the new SJ7 star for a little bit more than that

amazon/SJCAM-Camco...25306cae342411

if you search here for "sj4000" there are endless threads talking about them, and youtube has loads of comparison videos for quality vs gopro, and they are generally as good if not better, but for a fraction of the price.
