Advantages of booking onboard?

Is there any advantage of booking another cruise on board? Do you get discount or any or benefits?

Thanks for your help

Yes there are advantages but it varies by cruise line. Sometimes there are lower prices or special promotions such as free drinks packages or free gratuities. It all depends.
On our last cruise with Princess we didn't book an actual cruise but bought a future cruise deposit each. This is £75 pp which counts as a full deposit when we do book a cruise plus we get up to $250 pp on board credit. For us, we will get $150pp for a 14 day cruise in an inside cabin next September.
If you don't book a cruise in 2 years, you get your money back.

On Disney by booking either a sail date or a placeholder if you don't know a date you want to sail you get 10% off the rate at the time of booking and up to $200 onboard credit per stateroom depending on the length of the cruise.

You also benefit from only having to pay a 10% deposit. Some dates are blacked out (not included in the 10% off or 10% discount) and if you book concierge, you do not get the 10% off (although you should! )

Go to the future cruise desk at the start of your cruise, not the last day or it'll be a long queue. A placeholder will cost $250 per cabin and that money then gets transferred to your confirmed booking once you know when you want to sail.

Hi, if you book a placeholder cruise do you still get 10% of the price of the cruise you book later?

Yes you do, but only if it's not a blackout date. Your placeholder is basically securing you that 10% discount.

Exchange rate issues if you book onboard you will be booking in dollars.

This year our cruise was a lot more expensive (£700) as we booked onboard and the dollar dropped through the floor if we had booked with a UK travel agent/ direct with Disney U.K., we would have locked in at the good rate 1.7 when booked, 1.3 when final balance due 😪😪😪.

But exchange is low currently so if if goes up it could work in your favour, just be prepared to have an element of the unknown, or pay it all at the time of booking and then you know (which we should have done but who knew the dollar would drop so much).

we normally book in UK but last year booked onboard for the 'extra's' but they've been wiped out now by the exchange rate

You do not have to pay in dollars onboard - they converted the $250 to pounds for us so we could make all future payments in sterling which is much better.
