which red wine?

DH wants to try red wine, ( I don't like red, love white tho).
Can you recommend one ? He's tried a malbec but didn't like it much.

If he doesn't like Malbec then stay away from Cabernet sauvignon as that has rich tannins too.

A Merlot is quite soft and easy to drink and a Shiraz is a little spicier but not in the Cabernet or Malbec heavy aftertaste league.

Pinot Noir is too delicate for me. It is just too watery.

Another vote for Merlot here; we like any that come from Chile!

Montepulciano is really nice . Has he tried red wine while eating ? Tends to make red wine taste less strong

When I was 17 and still in school I had a part-time job in Asda stacking shelves in the Beers, Wines and Spirits department.

Guaranteed, every weekend someone would come up to me and ask me for a recommendation.

I'm not a bloody sommelier! I'm a kid who knows that it comes in red or white* and is sometimes fizzy!

*Rosé wasn't really a thing back then - there were about 2 varieties of it and that was it.

Best red I've had was a Rioja.

Personal taste, but I like a nice Rioja, try a Campo Viejo, around £7-8 a bottle in Sainsbury.

If it’s a special occasion try a Barolo, very distinctive taste and a fair bit more expensive (£15 a bottle ish)

In our Sainsbury’s they sell a range of small bottles (35cl I think) so maybe get a few different ones to try.

(Reading this back I may sound like I have a red wine problem, I assure you I don’t! )
