Quick update on our arrival yesterday, but not very helpful in this context as it was usually quiet.
VS75 was the only international plane in when we landed but one from South America came in. We were through immigration in 15 mins, had cases collected 10 mins after. When we got off the monorail the whole airport seemed relatively quiet. We went down to where DME was and there were very few people around. In the end I got a Nissan compact, (no chance arose for the $20 trick, unlike Sanford, I haven’t picked a hire car up from Orlando Airport for many years- well, 4 year, so didn’t know what to expect), and we could just squeeze everyone and the bags in there. Also forgot to pick up the Visitor’s Toll Pass- doh, although I didn’t see a desk to remind me. Glad I’d got the car as I’d forgotten to pack (was v busy at work before I went) swimming shorts and gym gear - not great when I wanted to go swimming last night and a run this morning, so a quick trip to Walmart was in order.

Don’t know why you think it wasn’t useful , it illustrates hour waits aren’t “all the time” and there are lots of variables even at times you’d expect MCO to be busy as DME serves domestic flights as well as international ones .
It doesn’t have to be a horror story to be useful Edited at 09:16 AM. |

True. It was very quiet though, I don’t think I’ve ever been boarding the monorail before 25 mins after getting off the plane, so just wanted to warn people I was possibly observing a very quiet moment in the airport.

For every person who experiences a long queue at the DME there are probably 50+ people for whom the DME is reasonably quiet. Of course, the people seeing long queues post it on social media (because it's unusual and "unacceptable") whereas the rest don't bother because a small, normal queue isn't interesting and won't generate clicks/likes/controversy.
Anywho, glad you didn't have any issues at MCO and it was quiet. Have a great time in Orlando, YT!

We had roughly a 45 min wait when we went Sept 2016 but that was down to the driver been told to wait to the bus was nearly full.
Mears run the DME so not sure how many buses run on each route but I guess it’s 3 so when it’s busy a bus leaves every 20 mins so if you have to wait for 3 buses that’s easily a hour. Also when u book the magical express you got guests from around the world. |
