Paying for seat selection - BA/AA

Dh is driving me potty. We’re going round and round in circles…. I have found a good price for our dates on the BA website but flying AA with one stopover.
I am of the opinion that whatever gets me to the magic is worth it - 6 stopovers, squashed into a suitcase in the hold just get me there
‘D’h is the opposite - he basically wants PE direct but we can’t afford it. It’s for the ‘extra legroom’ well wouldn’t we all like a bit more space and yes having to change planes is a pain but we’ve procrastinated so long direct flights are gone. Have got him to agree to economy but he has now thrown a hissy fit that we won’t be able to choose seats to sit together (2 adults and 2 teenagers). So questions..
1. Anyone know a good marriage counsellor?
2. Can we pay to select our seats on an AA flight even if we’re booking through BA?
3. Can we use avios points to pay for advanced seat selection?
4. If yes to q3 how much will it cost in avios points to seat my dh as far away from me as possible?
5. Someone please tell me AA are ok!

Hi. Yes you can book your seats in advance with AA. And unlike BA it’s free!
They are a good airline on par with BA

Are they free? I booked BA earlier and it's £56 each to select our seats in Premium economy!

BA aren’t free until 24 hours before when you checkin. AA are free though.

2. Yes you can. You need the AA booking reference to select seats on AA, it should show within the booking on BA.com. Some seats on AA can be reserved in advance without charge, others will require payment.

3. No, you can’t use Avios to pay for seat reservations on AA-operated flights, only on flights operated by BA.

5. AA is fine.

Great - thanks for the prompt replies - I think we’ll just bite the bullet and book and then just see.
tbh only one of our dc will be bothered about sitting next to one of us - I’m sure the older one will want to disown us after the ‘airport argument’
It’s all fine when we get there (honest)

Nope *all* PE seats on AA metal are free (not codeshare has to be an AA plane) . I actually changed my AA PE seats today as one of the front row pairs of seats became reavailable .
We are AA out in PE and back in business with BA. I’m not paying to reserve on BA (I never do and we’ve never been split up ….although we travel term time not school holidays)
