Tell me about Heathrow T5

Never flown from Heathrow

Flying from T5 with BA to New York next week

Lounges look pretty poor/not great reviews so haven't booked yet - confused with what is open though in terms of places to eat in the terminal.

Anyone got any recommendations etc?

Should add that we fly at 8:55am so will be there early doors (staying at the Sofitel)

There are quite a few places open as per usual, however be careful on your flight times - we were there a couple of months ago for a 10pm flight and restaurants/shops were closed at 8pm on a Friday night - which is absolutely shocking! They should close once the last plane has departed.

Have breakfast at the Sofitel, lovely hotel by the way, and then head over to get through security 90 minutes before depature and head to the gate.

Hi - in case you didn't know you can check in your luggage the night before at T5, which will save you time in the morning

With the amount of departures after around 2000 being so few I'm not at all surprised with shops and restaurants closing early.
