BA/Avis prices look about the same £700-£800/week on a compact 4, I think it's going to be hard to tell & we all should have a better idea by the end of Q1 next year. It's going to take car availability to increase, the US is going to be no different to us in that there is still a shortage - a quick look at any car dealer & see how many have actual new car stock, most will state on order or arriving by IYKWIM. Like others it's supply & demand & if people are paying the crazy prices... as long as taxis/uber/lyft are under $130/day then whilst losing convenience we will be saving money

Virgin’s car hire prices have shot up today.
A minivan for my dates in July has been £1091 for months, but now it’s £1635!

Of course theres the car shortage but I would imagine all the car hire companies are keeping an eye on their competitors pricing and matching it up. This will help keep the prices high.

Like everything when prices do eventually start coming down it will be a slower more drawn out process than it needs to be. Customer always looses!

Our booking thru Virgin for next August was £590-odd... just done a dummy booking today, same pick-up/drop-off, same car (full-size SUV, Tahoe or similar), up to £835...

I don't expect rental car prices to go down much here in the US any time in the near future.

You can still get cheap deals if you look and are prepared for a little effort.

I have just rented a Group G premium car for £600 for three weeks from a hotel near Tampa Airport. It is with Hertz and includes LDW and SLI and an additional driver.
