Went to a 4* hotel in Mallorca AI recently (tan fading boo hoo!) and no one really dressed up as such in the evening. Some wore smart shorts (opposed to beach shorts) t shirts, dresses, trousers, all casual. Often there will be a dinner rule regarding men wearing long trousers or smart shorts for dinner/evening meal. That as well as a no vest/sleeveless rule for men in the evening as well. DH wore smart shorts and tshirt/polo shirt. More casual attire for breakfast/lunch eg covered up swimwear/swim shorts plus vest top or t shirt etc.
I would look on trip adviser at the Q&A section for your hotel and the reviews as there questions do come up.

ive found (only been to 4* or above sounds snobby but its a fact !) and of an evening i would wear smarter shorts , shirt or polo short

i always check about long trousers etc as i can think of nothing worse than being in stiffling heat in long trousers

breakfast/lunch fine in beach shorts/tshirts

It depends where you stay. Some resorts have strict dress codes and some are very relaxed. Check with your resort. X

I agree its a pain in the butt to put long trousers on, ironically the proper 5 Star non all inclusive places dont care. Why you have to wear long trousers rather than tailored shorts is beyond me. I was at the Principe Felipe a few weeks back, no such nonsense.
If its hot I go and change after, into shorts.
