Great report, thanks so much for posting. I regret not having reports for all our holidays so I can imagine it being quite satisfying to have added another to your repertoire

Thank you for a great TR! It was fab to see some familiar places and restaurants, Seaworld, Aquatica, Discovery Cove (we love this place!), Cheesecake Factory and Rainforest Cafe. I didn’t even know you could buy the knives at Longhorns they will be on the list for the next trip.

Crab Island looks like it would have been amazing, shame about the weather but that is always something to do for the next time you go back. I’m pleased that you are all still friends too!

Thankyou.
I wish that I had started doing trip reports before 2018, but had looked at others and found them very food focused and that simply isn’t us.
It was a question of
1. Having the confidence that people would have interest in what I wrote.
2. Finding a format that suited me, hence why I write one, continuous thread, rather than a separate one for each day. I simply do not write enough to justify that method. I have this feeling that some end up ‘over padding’ their reports in order to create what they perceive as the appropriate volume.
3. Visiting places and doing things that might be different to the norm, which has been covered extensively by trip reports compiled by others who write much better than I do. I wrote this one for instance, to 1)cover the panhandle, an area not normally frequented by Brits, but that may now be of interest to others and 2) because I thought that the dynamics of a 2 family vacation, highlighting potential pitfalls might be interesting.

This will be my last ‘historic’. As I found it rather difficult for reasons already explained.

I am really looking forward to covering California, Arizona and Nevada later this year as once again, we have some things lined up that might be considered unusual by some.

I am glad that you enjoyed this one!

We were really disappointed to miss Crab Island and it is rather unfortunate that we will now do it in the future, although it is probable that we will revisit Destin.

1. Our boys are now 15 and 19, making it unlikely that we have more than a few ‘family’ vacations remaining.
2. We would be wary of a further ‘two family’ vacation as I believe our method nor compatible with the ideas of many.

The Crab Island thing would appear very much a group activity.

Thankyou for your kind words. I am glad that you enjoyed the report.

P.S . I don’t think that they really advertise the Longhorn Steakhouse knives. We simply asked the Waitress on the off chance.

Great trip report - thank you! I would never consider going away with another family as we also have a unique style to holidays and I would be inclined to go along with what the other family wanted rather than what I really wanted to do to keep the peace. That said, I am going with a friend next year, leaving both our families behind but it will be a different experience altogether as we have both been to Orlando many times and we always get away together throughout the year so know what floats each other’s boat.

Kids growing up does change things doesn’t it? We are at that stage now with kids aged 20 and 19. I’m not sure they will be with us on future holidays so things will be different again.

Just read your whole trippie. Lazy Sunday morning in bed. Thank you so much for writing this. Great report. I also enjoyed your son’s entries. He’s definitely inherited your writing skills/sense of humour!

I always enjoy reading about different places though I am a bit annoyed that we missed all the military attractions, when we stayed at Seagrove Beach. I could have bravely volunteered to stay on the beach/go shopping at the Destin Commons & earned lots of brownie points by letting my DH go off on his own.

I wouldn’t go back again though. We loved the area, had a great condo, right on the beach but that traffic on the 98 was a constant nightmare.
Looking forward to your next report already. X
