Should we visit Universal?
Hi Everyone,
My family and I are going to Disney for Easter and considering doing a day at Universal. After watching some You Tube videos we are thinking our children may be a bit young. They are 5 and 7, do you think it would be better to wait until they are a bit older? Thanks for your help! |

If you have the time, I would always say yes! I think they could be a good age for a lot of the rides... maybe just not the big rollercoasters!
We took DS there in 2019 (22 months old)... a few things for him to do, but he did enjoy it especially IOA. We are going again for longer this year now DS is 4 (turning 5 whilst out there) and DS2 is 9 months!

At 5 and 7 they will be able to do a large amount of the rides so I would say definitely yes.
I took my two when they were 3 and 1 and they loved it. There is a surprising amount to do for younger kids that I hadn't really noticed before. They are now 6 and 4 and we aren't doing Disney this year (just Universal, Sea World and Busch). |

Its worth checking out the universal web page as it shows you height restrictions. Also this site has some useful info theparkprodigy/universal-studios-for-kids/.
But Ultimately I would say if its your first trip you may want to consider what your plan is for the disney parks ,time by the pool and water parks first. Don't try and cram too much in. Unless your HP fans i would probably say save it for next time and spend that ticket money on other items, your looking at possibly £1000 for tickets depending on how many days you want to do. |

Of the 2 I'd pick the Studios, there's just too much in Islands that the kids won't get on but I would base my decision around the likelihood of going back ? You could quite easily do Disney only & not miss out & leave Universal until they are a bit older & more able to appreciate it. "Old" Studios was my favourite park but IMO Fast & Furious & jimmy Fallon can't hold a candle to the likes of Earthquake,Kongfrontation & Jaws- in fact I would bat an eye if I never rode those 2 ever again, they are just minutes of my life that I'll never get back!

If you've got the time and money then go for it. I think there's plenty to do in each of the two Universal parks for 5 and 7 year olds. You may find it difficult to fit everything in over just 1 day if going to both of the parks. We took our daughter when she was 3 nearly 4 and she enjoyed the Universal parks. At that sort of age, kids will happily spend an hour just playing around in a play area going on slides, exploring tunnels, and the like.
So, for example, at IoA they will be able to go on everything in Seuss Landings (Cat In the Hat, One Fish Two Fish, Trolley Train ride, Caro-Seuss-el, the play area), Poseidon's Fury, Hippogriff coaster, look around Hogsmeade in the shops and maybe catch the Frog Choir and see Ollivanders, Jurassic Park Discovery Center, the excellent Camp Jurassic play area, River Adventure (maybe?), Me Ship The Olive, perhaps the Bilge-Rat Barges if you don't mind getting very wet, possibly the Spider-Man ride, Storm Force Acceletron, meet some heroes at Marvel Island, etc. That's just one park. Obviously, if you don't have the time or money, then there's plenty to do at the Disney parks. And you might not want to try and pack too much into your holiday, especially if it's your first visit. Oh and welcome to the DIBB!

DS has always preferred universal from aged 2 (he loved spiderman). There are loads they can do at that age if (which I'm sure they are) they are over 40 inches.

I mentioned on another post that my DS had outgrown Disney at around age 6. Not enough thrill rides for him (but it obviously depends on the child). Disney held no interest for him after the age of 3, in fact he actually preferred universal in his 2nd trip when he was 2 as he loved spiderman.
