Fox car hire
Currently in Orlando and just picked up our SUV from Fox car hire.
We booked in January through wise cars and only found out 48h before collection date who the actual car hire company was. I paid £395 for 12 days, which given the current situation in the rental market I realise is quite reasonable. On getting to the hire desk though, they informed me that the basic damage waiver was $45 per day and that because I was a foreigner I had to take it. Highly suspicious of that. So I left after having paid and additional $750 on top of the original £395 hire price. (They wanted an additional $150 refundable security deposit). Wondering if there is any way I can challenge this now? ( a bit after the fact I realise) but I feel that I have been gouged on the damage waiver because the initial.hire price was lower than it is currently Edited at 06:49 PM. |

It appears you may have reserved a car with no insurance from a website designed for US customers. Did you add any insurance at the second stage of the booking process?

I suspect they have charged you the $26.99/day CDW and $16.99/day SLI that you might have skipped - have you got your booking confirmation handy?

The price you've paid in pounds is about the same as the price in dollars on the Fox car hire site. It doesn't include the necessary insurances. I've copied this from the Wise Cars website, note the bit I've put in bold.
Most car hire companies require the hire car to have Collision Damage Waiver and Theft Protection. Both policies will be: included in the Wisecars package; or available for purchase from the car hire company |

I'd also add that £395 for an SUV for 12 days seems too good to be true in the current climate.

What worries me far more on the face of it is maybe the lack of SLI - far more important in my opinion than CDW.
A remote chance that it may include the state minimum of $25K but I'd guess not the $1m that you need. Mick

If the OP has been billed for SLI from Fox then it's OK - I've just looked and it's $1million - OP really needs to be checking though

I'm not being a 9 o'clock critic but Fox is well known as one of the worst companies to hire from. OP. Hope you get things sorted.

No worries Mick, I've just been checking out the Wise website they booked through, it's very shady and doesn't mention insurance unless you poke around in the FAQ's as Jim has done.
