Arrow Plumbers help

So our house living room radiators don't get to the right heat, plumber thought was sludge, his taken it off and it's not the problem.
He thinks the radiators to upstairs and the downstairs extension are fitted one way and the living room fitted another
He suggested it need repiped, the whole house .
Would the whole house need renewing or could it be just renewed downstairs

I'm a Carpenter so not a great deal of help to you.

However has it always been like this. If not I lay money its sludged up on a bend in the pipework. I had the same issue and took 2 Rads off that were fine. It was traced to some bends in the pipes under the bathroom floor. They were just about solid.

If it has always been problematic the Plumber could be right.

Best I can do sorry.

I’d turn off your other radiators and see if heat gets to this radiator just to see if it does work and take it from there.

there could be many issues that would cause the radiators in one part of the house to be colder than the rest of the house

if a radiator is cold at the bottom and warm at the top then they could have sludge at the bottom of the rad. hot at the bottom and cold at the top suggests air in the rads. warm pipes to the radiator and a cold rad could be a stuck or sticky thermostatic valve or as suggested before the problem could be a restriction in the pipes leading to the cold zone

also how the system was built could be important is it a single zone system dual zone or multi zone system and do you know the history of the system was it all installed at one time or was part of the system added at a later date this can happen when heating to an extension is added to a existing system at a later date

but as with many things without getting hands on and checking multiple possible causes it is impossible to give a definitive answer to your problem and something as simple as balancing the system may help

Thus us the problem we have been told, so to fix it it need repiped? Plumber suggested wait until redecorating 🙄

are your heating pipes surface mounted or chased into the wall

if the pipes are chased then it will be a very messy job that will take a lot more time. if the pipes are surface mounted then it will be slightly easier but still a big job

without knowing how your system has been built and added to over the years it is impossible to offer advise on the correct way to fix your problems
