I've seen photos all afternoon of his Mum,Dad and various Aunties and Uncles sat at kitchen tables with pen and paper trying to work it out.😳😂

I have tried to put algebra to it earlier and even that didn’t work out properly, I might have another go later when I have time. Currently it is early morning and I am packing to come home

An algebraic answer would be beyond age 10 though and I don’t like maths that relies upon guessing (though I don’t see another option here), not how maths should be done. I think this is hard for the age group.

You start with a number x by 3 add 1 and this must then be divisible by 2. That is then the next pile you x by 3 and add 1 then this must be divisible by 2.
You repeat this for the number of times it’s been split.
