Can you do a second pre-departure test?

Hi, apologies if this has been answered before, but I couldn't find anything.

I am perhaps over thinking this but I can't help be worried that our entire holiday hinges on one test that is taken the day before we fly out.

If someone in our group were to test positive on their pre-departure test, is it possible to take another one (if you buy extra tests) to rule out a false positive? Or is it a "one try only" situation?

I don't know if many companies would be willing to retest you if it's positive. But FWIW, a false positive is very rare as long as the test hasn't been contaminated. It's false negatives that drag down the accuracy rating on LFTs.

If it’s a video call one I can’t see them letting you retest there and then, you could take another at the airport if you live near by one and you were sure it was false.

That's what I was thinking, do the test companies send your results anywhere except to you? E.g the airline, CDC, Government?

It's not recorded nationally so I can't see why you couldn't get another test done with another company.

What happens if the test hasn't worked for some reason - should we order spares in case of that?

The company who did ours said that if we tested positive they would do a retest to confirm. Not sure if all in-person tests are the same.

My PCR was reported to the NHS who then contacted me to explain quarantine

We were told we'd be expected to get a PCR if LFT positive.
