Tumble Dryer recommendations

It’s an expensive weekend. Boiler gave up yesterday and having just paid £100 to have it fixed a few months ago, service due this week and a £300 repair require we thought we’d best cut our losses - it was 16 years old.

So, new boiler was fitted today - excellent service from our local heating engineer.

Tumble dryer has now decided to stop working. It’s done well too at definitely over 12 years old. It’s a vented one we have currently but happy to consider other options. There’s just the two of us and I don’t tumble my clothes so it’s OHs work clothes, towels, underwear and bedding.

Any recommendations? This is when I wish I paid for Which…

I have a Beko condensing dryer - great dryer.

I would not recommend a Hoover dryer - had two from Currys - both had to go back as they both sounded like a cement mixer with a brick in.

For the limited use it will get, I would just purchase the cheapest vented dryer. Simple and will dry your clothes quickly.

My neighbour £800 heat pump dryer takes 180 minutes😮

I bought the second cheapest, vented dryer last week in my local appliance store. It was a INDESIT I1D80WUK WHITE INDESIT DRYERS 8KG VENTED TIMER WHITE TURN&GO
£209. I love it. Dryers, to me are like microwaves. One setting is all I need.

First think I do is Google recalls for each particular model. Then check the number of house fires they have caused.

Sounds dramatic but I would never ever leave a tumble unattended in the house. We have had a replacement from Hotpoint under their recall program. Ohh and surprise surprise the replacement started melting!

I suspect Beko and Hotpoint/Indesit have the worst record for the above

I’d also recommend a Beko Condensing dryer, we’ve just had ours a couple of months and it’s fab. Far better than our previous vented one, not as noisy and a lot quicker too.

Another vote for the Beko condensing dryer. Very happy with ours despite having an array of much more expensive brands in the past.
