The Return Journey
Back to the coach for the return journey to get back on the train, we have to go to Crewe to get it.

We are once again met by our stewards and helped on the train once again we are  called LADIES, we keep looking round to see who they are talking too.
No sooner are we settled in our seats and our glasses are filled with Champagne,
Once again as soon as our glass is empty it is filled up. At exactly 5.50pm we leave Crewe.  Now it is time for the meal.

MENU
JELLIED BOUILLABAISSE WITH ROUILLE AND CROUTONS
(Still do not know what this was, I know it was something fishy how because we had fish knife and fork also I found a Prawn in it).
                                                             *
ROASTED TOMATO AND VODKA SOUP WITH HERBED CRÈME FRAICHE
(Yes Shaun tomato and vodka soup)
                                                              *
FILLET OF SCOTTISH VENISON MARINATED IN JUNIPER OIL,
Served on a LEEK AND POTATO CAKE,
With a CARAMELISED BABY PEAR IN A PARSNIP CUP
                                                               *
GREAT BRITISH CHEESEBOARD WITH HONEYCOMBE, AND HOME-MADE CHUTNEY
                                                                *
TRIO OF ORIENT – EXPRESS DESSERTS
(These were 3 different little deserts; still not sure what I know one was ginger cake)
                                                                *
COFFEE AND PETITS FOURS
                                                                *
BRANDY OR PORT

Ooops I forgot the wine I started off with red but I found it a big heavy so I asked the next time when the steward came if I could change to white, then I had the choice of dry or sweet, I chose sweet it was gorgeous, once again as soon as your glass was emptied it was filled up, I still do not know why every time the steward filled mine up he laughed. I saw Linda’s face getting redder and redder she does not usually drink except for a martini at Christmas. The meal lasted from 6pm – 9pm.
Now it is even harder to walk to the loo still not sure if it was the train or me that was swaying all over the place, I think it was the train.
Oh dear we realised that we only had just over an hour left, started to feel very down hearted now.
We got chatting to a couple of sisters opposite us and of course the subject turned to Orlando how I do not know.

All too soon we are pulling into Victoria Station, it had only taken 4 hours to get back as our return journey was by Diesel and not Steam, we were so reluctant to leave but of course we had to. There once again at the door of the carriage are our 3 stewards saying the usual, yes of course we tipped them they deserved it for how hard they had worked.
So we walked (maybe staggered a bit) off the train and down the platform with our Orient Express bags in full view so everyone could see where we had been, looking back thinking to ourselves where shall we go next time. York we think.

The service like our journey was calm and unruffled. We had settled back into our deeply comfortable seats and were transported into another age while Britain’s glorious countryside unfolded past our window.

We get outside and wait for Mick to pick us up as the train got in earlier than expected he was not there, we just stood there waiting and talking about our lovely day out on the Orient Express. We were soon home and I was still on a high, it is so hard trying to tell other people just how wonderful it is, they cannot understand how I could be so excited about a train journey. You really have to experience it to realise why.

It hasn't changed a bit.

Thanks Sue for bringing back a lovely memory of those loos!
Luxury or what? I met another passenger in there who had taken his video camera in so he could tape it. Needless to say I asked him to switch the thing off while I was there.

So are you going to make this a regular event?
