Like your thinking, with refillable mugs being $20 but just one night on either the QS ($55) or the standard DP ($78) then makes moving into a low point room for the first night even more attractive.

We just purchased the mugs last year so might well consider that next time and grab a QS bacon wrapped meat loaf at WGP Express, many thanks for the tip.

I agree this is genius. I would never have thought of doing a dining plan for just 1 night.

Thanks for all your replies. It’s clear we all holiday differently. Think I’ll see how many points I eventually end up with and make a decision based on whether I’m trying to save them or spend them.

We are generally arriving on an internal, having first visited somewhere else, arriving in the early evening. We look to hit Universal the next morning using xpress pass from a stay in one of the 3 premium universals.

For that first night we get a taxi from MCO to a hotel on IDrive, but North of Sandlake Rd.. one with complimentary breakfast. Last August, it was the Ramada at £70 for the four of us.

Next morning, it is up very early, breakfast and then a Taxi straight to the Universal Hotel at Club level. We don’t pick up a car until the filling evening when we move on, in our case to a Villa. In this way, we have saved on 2 days parking and 2 days car hire whilst spending around $60 on Taxis.

Thanks for this. We normally only hire a car for part of our trip but for the first time ever we’ve booked a fly drive for a little extra peace of mind(whether it really provides extra protection or not I don’t know but it makes me feel a little better &#129315.

The buying DDP for one night for 4 mugs is a good tactic I’d never considered but Mrs YT wouldn’t want the hassle of moving I don’t think.

Could I ask about the mugs. Are they only refillable for the intial one day stay, or do they last longer in different resorts?

Also, we've continued using them when we've moved down to Vero and if staying longer you can ask a castmember to extend them which will be for a further 14-days; on one trip we extended ours twice so really got our monies worth. But still not as good as the 90's mugs which we thought were good for life, managed to use them a few times before the policy was made clear that you needed to purchase a new mug for each stay.

Why not book a night at the Hyatt at MCO. Pick the car hire up the next day - you be up silly early anyway, then drive to the resort, check in and go to a park for ropedrop. Saves a days car rental and a nights points.

I usually do split stays with one or more nights at my first resort - probably BC and like others buy the QSDP for the mug. Then I'll move to another resort like BLT for the rest of the trip.
In the past with a larger family group we'd start at Universal but that's not so attractive now and I like the convenience of ME.
I did try a night at Pop one time but that was so grim I wouldn't do it again - rather spend a few extra points at a nice resort.
