Orlando at Christmas but no parks! (kinda)
Ok, so we are planning our 7th trip back to Orlando this December. A bit different this time though. We aren't doing any parks (other than one night at MVMCP and Legoland). Aiming to stay at Rosen Plaza on I Drive and will have our 6 year old daughter with us (don't worry we aren't being the worst parents in the world by not taking her to the parks this time, we were there in 2017 and are also saving to go back in 2021!)
Looking for inspiration on things to do as a family that are either free or relatively cheap. Will likely hire a car so doesn't need to be I-Drive based either. Hit me with your recommendations!

Take a walk around Lake Eola at night; watch the Winter Garden Golf Cart Parade (yes, seriously!), and visit Winter Garden for its lights anyway; tour the Magic Kingdom resorts by monorail; get tickets for ICE! at the Gaylord Palms Resort (it costs, but is well worth it); tour the Rosen Hotels for their Xmas lights presentations; spend time at Disney Springs (ideally in midweek when it's not TOO busy) and take in the Christmas Tree Trail; and spend some time at the Mall of Millenia, which does a fabulous Xmas overlay and visit with Santa!
For something really different, consider the amazing Singing Trees presentation at the First Baptist Church: firstorlando/events/singing-trees/ |

Love these ideas! Thanks Simon, that definitely gives us something to work with! I take it for touring the Magic Kingdom resorts, we'd need to pay parking?

My daughter is dog-daft so that would be right up her street! Is it held the same time every year? What date in December was it (I suspect it might be before we arrive )

Ah, likely just a bit early for us but will keep an eye out just in case we strike lucky

If you book a meal at one of the resorts, you will get free parking, but otherwise you will need to pay for MK parking. Or you could park at Disney Springs and get a Disney bus to one of the MK resorts.
Get a bus to Fort Wilderness and you can enjoy the astonishing site of all the RVs and camp-sites decorated for Xmas (!), then get the boat to the MK and catch the monorail. Then catch the bus back to Disney Springs from whatever resort you finish at. |

Love this idea! Was saying to hubby last night about eating at one of the resorts so that would work well. Brilliant info - thanks Simon!
