Day 13 - Aquatica, Seaworld and Hard Rock Cafe

On our last trip in 2016 we loved Aquatica, but werent too keen on the food - it really was standard theme park food which you could get in the UK, which is not what I associate with the Orlando parks as there are usually so many excellent options. For this reason, this time we planned to get a late breakfast somewhere close to Aquatica on I Drive before heading in so that we wouldnt have to buy any food.

In the end - we just fancied a good old McDonalds breakfast! But I have to say, we were so impressed with the McDonalds at the end of I Drive close to Seaworld, the iHop and Red Lobster. We ordered at the counter and a lovely lady brought our food to us at our table! The OH ordered a steak (yes, steak!), egg and cheese biscuit, whilst I had a sausage, egg and cheese McGriddle. The OHs was so good that we both (I had to have some!) devoured it before we could get a photograph..! So I only have a photograph of my McGriddle which was also excellent; it tasted a bit like an English breakfast in between two American pancakes!

I also got an orange juice which I only took a photo of at the end, but this tasted so fresh and I loved the cup it came in which made it super easy to take with us as we walked to Aquatica:

We did enjoy Aquatica but not as much as we did in 2016. If Im honest I think its because Volcano Bay blew us away and was so convenient with us having the private Cabana Bay entrance. We instantly compared Aquaticas crazy river which we LOVED in 2016 to the one at VB and the Aquatica version wasnt as good as we remembered 😞 This was a shame as it was a highlight of our 2016 trip and something we couldnt wait to experience again, but I think this just shows how well VB has been done as there is definitely nothing wrong with Aquatica, its just not quite there for us anymore. Saying that though, we will go back in 2019 as we want to give it another chance and to experience Ray Rush, the new attraction.

We then hopped over the road to Seaworld for the afternoon and had a few more rides on Manta and Mako. We also fed the stringrays which is one of my favourite things to do 😃 Before leaving, we got ourselves some Dippin Dots - I had cookie dough (pictured) which has always been my favourite flavour and the OH had birthday cake flavour which was nice too (not pictured).

We then headed back to Cabana Bay and got ready to go to CityWalk and the Hard Rock Cafe where we had made a reservation. I instantly ordered a frozen strawberry daiquiri in a souvenir cup which although wasnt on the menu, the server had no problem with taking my order of. She was very accommodating.

For our meal, we decided to just share some starters and sides. Weve eaten at a few Hard Rock Cafes around the world and we always tend to do this as the portions are huge and it means we get to try more things! One thing we always order though is the Margherita Flatbread:

We then went for the nachos, which we do usually have too, some truffle fries and, you guessed it, a mac n cheese!

This was all really good and Im glad we finally decided to cave in and get one of the souvenir glasses to take home with us!

We did try to go to Toothsomes after this to get another chocolate shot but they had closed the shop off for the night by the time we were finished.

This sounds like it was a fab trip. Some great food, I'm feeling really hungry now! You can't beat a big pink for breakfast!

Day 14 - VB/US/IOA, NBC Sports Grill & Bar and Cowfish

It was our final full day, so the plan was to go to all three Universal parks and go back to our favourite restaurants of the trip.

After a morning at Volcano Bay, first on the food list was NBC Sports Grill & Bar which we had been to on the evening a couple of days previously, but which we thought we would try out for lunch this time. We had loved our starters so much last time that we tried them again on this day but as our main meal whilst sitting outside on the terrace. We therefore had the Wisconsin fried cheese bites and the black and blue kettle chips:

As we learnt last time, these were big portions so we didnt need anything else for lunch, but we did have to stop by at Voodoo Doughnuts once more before the end of the trip. I had the Dirt again, whilst the OH tried the Voodoo Doll. I didnt try this as it has jam in the middle and I hate jam, but he said that it was much better than the Butterfinger hed had earlier in the trip - I think probably because this was a yeast donut rather than a cake one! Although it didnt quite look as much of a perfect doll as photos from others have looked...!

Heres a quick photo of the spinning donut wheel they have when you enter the shop in case useful:

After a sad last trip to Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure, we decided to hit Cowfish for our final dinner. Although the OH didnt make the best choice with his meal here last time, he had seen some other menu options he liked the look of and I enjoyed my food here last time too.

On this occasion, we managed to snag a seat on the terrace outside which was lovely. We were tired so no cocktails this time around though. I ordered the calamari we had as a starter last time as my main, along with some parmesan bacon truffle fries. These were really good:

The OH ordered the High Class Hillbilly Southern Style Bar-B-Q-Shi which was pulled pork, caramelised onion and BBQ sauce, wrapped in potato and flash fried, topped with housemade bacon coleslaw and chives. This was amazing and both of us ended up sharing it...! It tasted a bit like a burger or pulled pork sandwich but just with a different texture; we will 100% go back and order this on our next trip.

Despite being full, afterwards we decided to quickly try out Cold Stone Creamery which we had heard really good things about. We got a small pot of the Cake Batter flavour which was lovely and we just about finished it. We probably shouldnt have ordered it as we were so full but needs must on your last day...!

Day 15 - Travel Home Day 😔

As we had hit IOA on our first night, our Universal tickets had run out by our final morning and we didnt fancy the stress of getting to and from Seaworld (for which we still had valid tickets) - we therefore spent the morning at the pool after check-in and although we toyed with the idea of heading to CityWalk for a final Moes, we decided to eat at the Cabana Bay food court, the Bayliner Diner, for the first time for lunch instead before getting on the TUI coach back to Sanford.

We got our usual kiwi strawberry slush to share, and ordered a mozzarella and tomato flatbread, a braised brisket grilled cheese sandwich which came with fruit, and (obviously) some mac n cheese. This was all pretty good for food court food and we were happy with our choices but super sad to leave which tainted the meal a bit.

As we didnt plan to do a trip report at the time, I dont have any photos of what we ate in Sanford Airport or on the flight home but it was all pretty standard airport and plane food. We went to the only bar that was open at the airport, which I think was an Irish bar, but we will never forget the bar man - he was so cheerful and was literally doing everything as a one man band!

So... that marks the end of our April/May 2018 trip report. We hope youve enjoyed it and we will be back with our September/October 2019 instalment before we know it!

Thank you for the report! I can totally empathise with the 'trying to eat everything on the last day' thing! We just came back from a cruise and on the last day I panicked about all the things I hadn't eaten or wanted to have again lol. So much food and so little time!

I've heard about NBC grill quite a lot on food reports, think we should try it next time we're over!

Hope you enjoyed. 😊

I think the needing to eat eveything thing is the trait of a true foodie haha! 😂

NBC is definitely worth a visit. I think weve always avoided it before and presumed it was just bar for watching sport but its definitely more than that! When we went there for lunch we also loved the position of the terrace - great for people watching and seeing everyones snacks as they walk past as so many come by as they go between US and IOA!
