Are you able to take the battery out ? If so , unplug from mains take the battery out and leave for 10 minutes before putting it back in , connecting the mains back and try powering on.

Hi Lettie, if the laptop starts up it's worth trying the F6 key along the top of the keyboard that turns your screen off/on. Hold down your keyboard Fn key, click F6 key (check diagram on key). Could be the inverter, changed my Acer inverter a few years ago; it intercepts DC power, converting to AC power for the bulb that lights the screen.

I'm going to assume the repair shop checked all 'n sundry, but...

Strange ! picked my laptop up from the repair shop they were very apologetic that they couldn't find what was wrong.

I left it a day or two and then thought I would try what ChrisS suggested I do. Opened up my laptop turned the power button on and lo and behold my laptop started with no problems.

nothing was done to it. I've had a black screen for over two weeks.

Any ideas what it could have been wrong. it was definitely charged.
