It's strange that it's taken til late in the year to kick off as the warm temperatures lasted longer than normal, winter and cooler temperatures usually slow the bloom of the algae but don't kill it off completely.

unfortunately, until they do something about the sewer that is Lake Okeechobee this will just keep happening.

The best source of information comes from this website.

visitbeaches/#

You can check the condition of the beaches in any area of Florida Gulf Coast before you visit.

The information is updated twice daily by Mote Marine environmental scientists.

Our local beaches ( Rotonda West area) are showing no signs of Red Tide.

Will be keeping an eye on this, we're booked into Tortuga Inn on AMI next September. Booked on Homeaway so easy to cancel/change plans if it doesn't look good for us.

The reports of Red Tide were already coming in at the beginning of October - let us hope that it doesn't get as bad as in the past.
