Depends on the individual and circumstances. Had to have radical hysterectomy due to cancer and the operation was just over 2 weeks before a booked holiday to Florida. Was lucky and was cleared to fly on planned date. Did have to notify travel insurance, get a signed form from the consultant and let BA know before I was allowed to fly. I was not allowed on most rides but consultant said if I could that it I would do better in warmer weather, find it easier to walk longer distances as would have a reason to do so (walking round the parks with the others) which would aid recovery and also easier not to do things I should not do eg run a home over Christmas. We did go, had a great time and was probably for the best as I had a good reason to try and recover quickly from the operation.

Thanks again for all the posts - it's an elective op, not for cancer, so the urgency is not there fortunately, but you also have confirmed my feeling that if the op is less than 3 months before the holiday it might be problematic.
I'm going to have a chat with my family member and see what she'd like to do.

This is exactly what I was going to say
I also had an abdominal wound so was still quite tender along scar line for quite a few weeks and found car seat belts quite uncomfortable until at least 8 weeks let alone how I would have felt with ride restraints As the earlier poster says it depends what's done and how she recovers. I had wound healing problems so part of my scar was still healing 3 months later She would also need to check with travel insurance what she would be covered for |
