We have been a couple of times in August and find it quite busy and humid, but if you take your time moving around it's not really a problem.
If I was you I would go for three weeks rather than two, the flight prices will be roughly the same, you will just pay extra car hire and accommodation and that way you will have time to relax as well
Or take your grandson out of school and go when you like

I've been in June last year and August the year before and despite having been to Florida many many times, it almost put me off ever returning.

Not so much the heat, I can cope with that, it's the humidity and most importantly the rain. Arriving at MCO we waited 3 hrs as the Storms meant the baggage could not be unloaded, when it did arrive, it was sopping wet.

I stupidly thought that rain arrived at 4pm, banged down for an hour, cleared the air and off you went. What actually happened is that there were many days where you were struggling to plan trips to the beach at 9am as a large Thunderstorm would wipe out the day from 11am onwards.

Sitting in the car, in a deluge, debating on walking 50 yards to a Restaurant and ending up soaking wet to eat in an AirCon room was a special type of misery.

Driving was horrendous, many plans were lost to the weather, rides closed, waterparks closed, Villa Pool unusable due to the Storms.

Never again during the Summer months for me, ruined 2 holidays I was really looking forward to.

We have to go in August main weeks as my wife works in and school and we have kids in education.
Yes it's really hot and humid and yes it can rain.
It's really busy but we love it and if you plan your holiday you will be able to do everything you want to do .
Planning makes it doable and if you are at universal express passes.
Early mornings for flight of pasage and Hollywood wood studios and some late evening's at all the parks.
This is a Florida holiday for us and you know what I miss being sweaty after 2 seconds of going outside it's what makes you know you're in Florida 😀

We always go the last 2 weeks of August due to school holidays. We really enjoy this time of year, yes it's hot and humid but in our opinion it's manageable. Stay hydrated and make use of the ac in shops.
