We have done the drive on arrival a few times but we were staying in our own house. With no hotel booked yet I would definitely just stay somewhere on the way. You will most likely wake up very early and be in Orlando before lunchtime.

We usually stop at Deerfield beach on the day we arrive, is an hour from miami and an easy drive. Dinner by the sea and a nice sleep before setting off in the morning stopping at Vero beach for breakfast/lunch on the way up, and then head to Orlando for check in to our hotel. Would never drive up on the day we arrive as were always so tired and much rather have a non tired drive up, we actually enjoy doing it that way as get to see a few other places rather than just Orlando!

I was about to post a similar question actually. We are flying into miami and was going to stay 2 nights somewhere down that way before driving to orlando for our disney hotel.
I'm not keen on DH driving for anymore than an hour or so when we arrive, I know he won't have slept well the night before. I like the sound of Deerfield beach myself. Hope you dont mind me jumping on your thread, we are going in August too and staying at POR.

When we flew into Miami we stayed over at the Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott at Jupiter and then drove to Orlando the next morning

We stayed at Best Western at Deerfield beach it was nice enough for a stop over night. Not sure if you have children with you but the family rooms have two double beds in the bedroom and a sliding door to the living room where there was a double sofa bed. Felt more roomy than other hotels we have stayed in.

I think if you are driving up to stay in a non Disney stopover hotel, I would instead choose a hotel close to the airport at Miami. I have done the drive and was shattered. We stopped at a services on the way for a Wendy’s (the services was basically in the central reservation). I would only do it again if I knew I had had a good nights sleep at the U.K. airport before flying (we travelled from wales to lhr for an early flight so was tired travelling anyway)

We done an overnight stop just up the turnpike at the Hilton Suites and Hotel, at Baco Raton. We had a lake view suite, free parking, free wifi, full brekfast and happy hour cocktail on arrival all for £130.00. With the cheescake factory just up the road and the location 2 minutes off the turnpike it was perfect for us..

We are flying to Miami next July and looking for recommendations of hotels to stay in/around Miami. We are a group of 8 so need 3 rooms just for one night after we arrive. Any suggestions?
