Again similar to me, I was diagnosed with coeliac 7 years ago! It was picked up after I was found to have osteoporosis x

My dad had pernicious anaemia and had injections and I have coeliac. I recently had a blood test and am anaemic again and the doctor said it was due to coeliac but I am still feeling rough, tired, dizzy, nauseous and bruise easily, would the doctor automatically check on b12 when doing a blood test or is this something I should ask for.

They would normally check for B12 if checking for iron, as the symptoms for deficiency are similar for both.

I was checked for iron years ago but came back as deficient for B12. I don't have pernicious anaemia, I was tested, so there is no absorption problem, I just don't get enough of it in my diet. My levels have been up and down for years, but were dangerously low last time, hence I'm on injections.

As I said earlier in this thread, Berocca is a good source of B12 - it has 344% of your RDA. But if there is doubt as to your ability to absorb, ask the Dr to test for pernicious anaemia. From memory its a blood test.

I had VERY low B12 and got some jags to boost me up.
You may have to get jags regularly or a boost might help to get your levels up and maintain.

thanks for all the replies

I already used to get a lot of the symptoms due to other medical issues so the doctors usually just fob any worsening of symptoms to that. I have noticed that some things like my memory problems have been much worse lately and I have been getting tingling in my hands again which had stopped after I had carpal tunnel & ulna nerve decompression surgery so maybe some of those will improve it they are connected to my b12 deficiency

Lol my mum was the opposite. She was found to have onset of osteoporosis after being diagnosed coeliac. Apparently it comes hand in hand. Although thankfully she's borderline but still has to take a tablet once a week for it.

I do my own b12 injections as I need them every other day for around 6 weeks then I get around 3 weeks before I start again. All monitored by m consultant but he’s signed me off now as he knows I know what I’m doing & I have his email address if I ever need to speak to him.
