We have chic shadow and white woodwork with no natural light apart from 2 narrow panels in the front door and I don't think it is dark. The white woodwork reflects lots of light. The photo isn't my hallway but is identical except for the light fittings. It was from pintrest and said it was chic shadow.

Thank you! I love your lights but stupid question; how do you change the bulbs? Serious concern

Thanks everyone for the pictures, some beautiful stairways/halls.

I think I’ll get testers of polished pebble and chic shadow before I make a final decision.

I love the glass staircase so have made up my mind that the ballustrade will be glass now .

I’m not good at adulting

Our hall is very similar to yours OP. We have a small square at the bottom where our front door is and the door is half glass. One other door at the bottom goes through to our dining room and this door is full glass. At the top we have 5 doors but no windows so not a lot of natural light. We did have dark wood (oak) panels on the bottom half for years but decided last year to lighten it up. All the wood was painted white. Above the wood we have Gray Owl which is a Benjamin Moore paint. I saw the colour on pnterest so ordered a sample pot. I then got it matched at Homebase (I think). I love it. I've just had a look just now but it's dark now so not the best light but I will try and remember to take a pic tomorrow morning and post it. I still need a new front door, so will only take a pic looking up. I hate my door. Its wood and dark in colour. It does really need replaced too. I was concerned my new internal doors wouldn't match (these are oak) but they are lovely. It hasn't half made a difference painting all the woodwork white.

Under the stairs was already boxed in, with a small cupboard and downstairs cloakroom.

We (well DH) did most of the stairs himself. He removed the old spindles, handrail and string (I think that’s what it’s called?). The posts were an oak cladding kit bought off the internet which you fit around the existing post, which he fitted himself. His friend (a joiner) helped him install the handrail, and then a local glass company measured the glass and installed that. DH then put the new string up and gave it all a quick varnish. I think the whole thing cost about £1k.

Haven’t had to change any yet, but let’s put it this way, when they do need changing then only DH can do it!

To install it in the first place was a bit fiddly, and needed a long ladder from the stairs to wall behind the light fitting.

For once practicality went out of the window and I went for what I liked.

We’ve just had the corridors at work painted Chic Shadow and it looks very nice, it’s not dark at all.

We have gone for spot lights on the landing, a pendant on the stairs and then a light fitting in the hallway that matches the pendant. Have attached pictures below to try and help.

Good luck with whatever you choose.

I love your lights and the wallpaper

Progress has been slow as the jo8ner we use was offshore so we had to wait a few weeks. We can now see the light at the end of the tunnel thankfully!

Painter is back Tuesday to finish up, carpet goes down Friday and then the glass needs to be fitted to the balustrade (it was 7-10 day delivery) and then lights go up.

I need a small piece of furniture to fit at the bottom of the stairs to house the dreaded router and Hive hub (can be seen on the floor in the pic) - towels are where the radiator pipes are . Any suggestions?
