Central Park absolutely. Never miss it. So much to see and do. Best to visit over several days, seeing only a fraction at a time. In summer, rent a bicycle if you are fit. So wonderful to cycle the loop! Hire a small boat and row in the lake. If you go during winter and have lots of money to burn, hire one of the many horse drawn carriages and ride around the park in the snow (wear many warm layers).
Statue of Liberty. Went up to the crown as a child. Would love to do that again! Circle Line cruise circling Manhattan island. Walking across the Brooklyn Bridge and getting pizza on the other side The High Line walk ending with lunch at Chelsea Market (many small shops and the food is brilliant) More common "city" things to do that NYC does SO well: museums and shows. Metropolitan Museum of Art American Museum of Natural History the Guggenheim a Broadway show a very brief visit to Times Square New York City Ballet the New York Philharmonic The Rockettes at Christmas is iconic Dinner at the Russian Tea Room and a performance at Carnegie Hall

And if you visit NYC in the summer and have a few extra days, I can highly recommend two day trips about an hour drive each from the city (hire a car). Drive out to Long Island and go to the beach. Fantastic choice is Robert Moses State Park right on the Atlantic. Another day, drive up into the mountains to New Paltz, New York. There is a hiking trail there, Sky Top trail, that gives breathtaking views.

After several trips we have done pretty much everything mainstream!
One of our fav ever is the tenement museum in the east village. It is great if you are into the history of immigrants, particularly if you are any part Irish or Italian! a brilliant few hours spent. And down the road from Katz deli |

Eat at Kate’s deli, massive sandwiches.
Breakfast at a diner. Go to the Top of the Rock, Rockefeller Centre, best skyscraper view, better than Empire State and One World Trade Centre. 9/11 memorial. Statue of Liberty. Boat cruise around Manhattan at sunset, so cool. Shopping! Times Square just to experience how busy it is! Spend a few hours in Central Park chilling out, visiting the small zoo then walk up 5th Avenue. |
