IMHO the east coast is not as good as the west. The sea always seems a lot warmer on the west.

If doing that trip, as you mention a couple of days I would head west and got down the Gulf coast. Most people I know say the further south you go the nicer it is, so Sanibel Island or Naples fits the bill. Then you can use the 75 across the everglades to get back to Fort Lauderdale and Miami. Total time difference doing the west coast is probably 2.5 hours, so over a couple of days that is nothing. If you have an evening departure then traveling across the everglades on the 75 will be perfect after hotel checkout

West coast is way better, much warmer, I'd take the extra driving on the chin and go west, honestly the water would be too cold for us on the East coast in October.

We've stayed in Clearwater, Sarasota and Anna Maria island, AMI was the most laid back and relaxing, very quiet

Gulf Coast water is generally warmer than the Atlantic also a lot calmer .

Unless you travel way South on the Atlantic right down to Miami before it is comparable to the Gulf coast.

Must be me then.

Always found the east coast like the Mediterranean. Still cold to get in, but you quickly get used to it and then like it.

West coast. Water warm as you paddle along the sea sure and warm as you get in, rather than cold to start with. In summer , water temp in the 80's.

As for calmness of the ocean. I find the west and east are the same, can be calm can be choppy, depending on the weather.

Must be. If you look in the records for the same line of latitude temps are no difference than a degree or two. It's one of the common fallacies on here.

A degree or two can make a big difference. As they say: statistics, statistics and damn lies.

Never like averages, they never tell the true picture.

But my big toe in water, that's a different story West IS best.

Same latitude is same temperature therefore in October the sea temperature at Vero Beach is the same as that at Anna Maria.
