We like a walk around old town ,its a sort of tradition for us but we have noted that there are more bars and its a bit more roudy than it used to be on an evening

We've been in the past but it's not an area I'm keen to go back to as it has become increasingly seedy and rough over the years. As a Mum, I wouldn't want either of my daughters to be visiting there alone.

Shame it seems to have gone downhill - we went to the car night on our last trip to Orlando in 2002 and had a good time, but don't think I'll be going this trip with my 4 year old!

If your mum doesn't feel comfortable at old town, then why would you even consider taking her some where she feels uncomfortable at. I personally think it's a bit tacky and I haven't been there for years (and don't plan going any time soon)?

We went in February this year. We went in the late afternoon / early evening and didn't feel unsafe, but had mixed impressions. We enjoyed the cars, and there is a really old fashioned ice cream parlour where we had a lovely ice cream, but most of the shops just looked tacky or nasty (I think there was a gun shop there).

We were glad we went, but we only stayed for about 90 minutes, and then we went somewhere else for dinner.

We stay across the street from Oldtown & feel completely safe. We like to have a wander over on an evening for a drink & on cruise nights you will find lots of friendly Americans who just love cars! I like having a mooch around the shops too! Never had any trouble in all the years we have stayed there.

I've not been to Old Town since 2001 and was planning on visiting next year with GF and 2 young kids.

After some comments in here, I think we might give it a miss.

I think it has definately gone down hill in recent years. The Christmas shop on the corner got broken into a few years ago, then closed down shortly after and to be honest I don't find the whole place so inviting anymore, so give it a miss now.

We haven't been for years but the last time we visited, I felt decidedly unsafe. There were some very dodgy characters in the vicinity and I felt quite uneasy. I was very happy to be back in the car and driving away! Haven't been near the place since so, although it's 'each to his/her own' I have to say that I can see where your Mom is coming from!

Totally agree,we always end up here at least twice each visit and have never had a problem.I am pretty sure if anything happened, especially to a tourist it would not take long to broadcast this on the dibb and we would have had plenty of stories/news warning us of the potential problems.Old Town, i would imagine relys on tourists paying it a visit and spending a few Dollars so i am pretty sure security around the Old town is of a good level. The problem i feel is when people go on about seedy looking characters etc(in which i am sure there maybe a few),we all then go along to Old town and instead of enjoying the lovely ice creams and shops on offer we spend our time looking for seedy looking characters lol .I like Old Town, relax and enjoy the difference
