I completley agree with lots of comments on here. A few years ago it wasn't too bad, tacky but not seedy. Our last visit was 2 years ago at night time and I felt very un nerved walking around, the walk to and from the car wasn't pleasant either as it was quite dark. I can't put my finger on what it was, but the general atmosphere wasn't nice. We would not return, but as others have said 'each to their own'.

I really don't know what the fuss is about Old Town. Like others have said it's perhaps not what it used to be (old town America), but it is actually more popular than ever as witnessed by the numbers on Saturday nights. We've gone every time we've been in Florida (including with our kids when they were young) and never once felt intimidated or uneasy.
Disney it most certainly is not, but some find that place scary

The first (and last) time we went, for the first 2 minutes, I thought it was fabulous. Then as we walked down the street, I began to feel really uneasy - but again, just like others, I couldn't quite put my finger on what it was. It was really strange and I only felt ok again as we left.

However, my parents went a few days later and absolutely loved it - thought I was daft for feeling the way I did!

We love going to Old Town. Never felt unsafe there. It makes a nice change to all the theme parks

I think that Old Town is like Marmite, you either love it or hate it. I do not like it at all, I find it dirty and not a nice place at all.

This is exactly what my mum said, couldn't give me a reason, she just didn't like it.
When we go on our next trip i will just go to the 2 shops i want to visit there and then leave, should not take more than an hour.
I did say to my mum i am happy to go on my own, i am sure i would be fine for an hour or so but she said she would be worried so she will come with me.

Isn't it strange that several people on here and my mum have all felt the same yet can't say why exactly. Must be a vibe that old town seems to give some people

when we went there was some sort of ghost house where these 2 people were trying to get us to go inside. We went into a few shops and it was fine, ut I can see where the unease come about

I find the majority of the east side of 192 fairly unappealing, it seems to me the further you go from I4 the more unappealing it gets, thats maybe why they are building up more on the west side of it.

I think the feeling of uneasiness comes with some of the locals who hang out there.

The last time we nipped down with some friends who like to visit whenever they come over, we were trying to avoid the lad with the words **** off tattooed on the back of his head and neck

I don't judge, just not bothered about being in the vicinity!
