Our first trip to Kissimmee we stayed at the Econo Lodge Hawaiian farther east on 192, which is still there, albeit a new name... and...erm, oh dear...

We were there for the 1994 World Cup and it wasn't bonnie then either :-)

BUT, it did only cost £1200 incl car, with free child place.

You could barely upgrade your seat to premium economy for £1200 quid nowadays
Sorry to be pedantic but the Hawaiian was at the begining of the 192 West and burnt down about 10yrs ago although I believe the Black Angus is still there
Did you mean Econolodge Polynesian?

It was a generation ago, so I'll bow to your better memory Anna-Marie :-)

Wasn't the Polynesian though. Never been there. Most likely I've confused 2 different Econolodges though.

I do know the Hawaiian was definitely '94. Perhaps the previous year was on the shoulder of 192 at another Econolodge - they were prevalent, as were Days Inns.

But it sort of supports my point. Shady low budget motel accommodation wasn't the sole confine of 192 east of the I4. :-)

Our first Florida Holiday (first holiday abroad after years in Scarborough) was with Airtours in the Howard Johnson Maingate West - west of 192 but it was definitely a budget hotel - got moved to rooms around pool which were better than the ones in round the parking lot - I learned that trip about motels - brochured as Hotels!

Our first holiday abroad was our honeymoon at the rodeway inn kissimmee in 1992 and I remember thinking it was a bit rough even then ! But back then there was no dibb, no internet we just went to a travel agent took our luck and bought tickets when we were there. No planning we just went ! I probably think too much about things these days !
