I must be the only person who just sticks with Anaheim in LA. I don't mind the drive to somewhere from there and it's sometimes quicker not to use the freeway. It can be a couple of hours on the return but we've just pulled into the outlets on way back and had dinner and a look around until the traffic eases again. Downtown LA just isn't for me and I feel a better vibe in Anaheim, I like being able to do downtown Disney at night even if haven't been to the parks that day. Not everyone agrees though

Depends what your doing though? If your just going into Hollywood to look around its not a problem/

If you want to be in Universal at opening and be sure of being there you need to leave Anaheim around 7am..

The other year we stayed in Anaheim as LA was a last minute thing.. We almost missed our slot at Warner Bros because of traffic.

I wouldn't stop in Downtown LA though, hell would freeze before I stayed in Hollywood..Much nicer places not so far away.
Next year I'm tempted to give Calabasas a try for a few nights.

We stayed in The Tangerine in Burbank to do Universal and Hollywood etc. It was literally around the corner from Warner Bros if you plan on doing that. It was maybe a 15 min drive from Universal and similiar to Hollywood Blvd. I loved the area, it's actually in Toluca Lake which has a lovely feel to it. Safe, and lots of places to eat. We were only there 4 nights but wish we'd stayed longer. We even met 2 stars from one of my daughters favourite tv shows outside the hotel 😁. That made their holiday xx
