Groupon US
Does anyone know how I can purchase deals from Groupon.com?
There are a number of deals that I would like to take up before our trip this August so I thought that I would try with a simple one - Get $10 at Starbucks for $5. I initially tried to purchase it with a Revolut card (loaded with dollars). It asked for my address so I entered my home address but chose Florida as the State and entered a Fl zip code. I instantly had an error message saying that the address does not match the card registration address. I then noticed that you could buy using paypal so I tried that. I received an email straight away to confirm the booking and an email from paypal to say that I'd authorised the payment. I then received another email from Groupn saying that they were unable to process my order. Any ideas? Thanks |

I use my Halifax clarity card and do the same as you did for the state and zip code. It's worked for me for the past 5 years.

I have the same problem. I have been buying US Groupon with my Post Office credit card for several years with no problem. I used my Uk address with FL zip code and it has always worked. Yesterday I received the Starbucks email so tried to buy it but got the error message. Then I tried with my Revolut card but it didn't recognise the address so I tried with PayPal and got the same replies as you did.
Does anyone know if they have tightened the regulations? Mike

Think they have clamped down. We tried to get the Starbucks one yesterday using the same card we had before to no avail.

Do you think that its just for certain deals? I fancied booking a couple of boat trips (marco island And clearwater) too but thought i'd try a $5 one first before trying $100!
Thanks |

OP, the only problem I've had (so far) was buying through Groupon some years ago, but it was the Halifax questioning/making sure that it was a legitimate purchase on my cc. I've recently bought a couple of Dine4Less cards posted by a Dibber, (big thanks to FamilyWales! ) did it through PayPal with no problems: everything has gone through OK. I've bought several 'deals' (swimming with manatees, orange picking/monster truck outing, hotels, etc.) for our Florida trips from here, and they have also gone through OK, however, there were some that I didn't purchase through PayPal but used my address and our villa's zip code, which worked.
OP, which card pays your PayPal? Sounds like the card might be the problem - can you contact them, and let them know that you are making purchases overseas? Maybe your card is being flagged up because you are suddenly spending in $s. Hope you can get sorted. |
