Wet 'n Wild to Close

inline imageUniversal announced today that their water park Wet 'n Wild is to close on the 31st December 2016.

This comes as no real surprise to us since the announcement of the new water park 'Volcano Bay' which is currently being built near the new on site hotel 'Cabana Bay'.

Wet 'n Wild has been running since 1977 and was America's first water park. Universal purchased the park in 1998 but only recently purchased the land the park was built on in 2013.

It is not known what the plans are for the prime real estate.

I have to admit I have never been here but it seems a shame really as it was convenient for those without cars staying on I Drive.

Is the land big enough for a 4th gate? Never been so don't know how big it is.

It isn't that big. Even if you include the lake it is about the same size as the new Volcano Bay. I am not sure if they own all the lake or just the part with the wake boarding. Plus it is really the wrong side of the I4.

It was pretty big. I stayed at the MIC Lakefront on my very first visit which overlooked Wet & Wild.

We have never been as we always thought the Disney water parks and Aquatica had more appeal. Excited to see Universal's new offering though!

We didn't think that much of it when we went in 2013
