cant hepl on the travel time but you also need to factor in bag check / security so add another 30 mins on to whenever you leave to account for this

Assuming 15 mins to drive and park up, 5 mins to get to the ferry, 5 mins waiting for the next ferry, 15 mins on the ferry to the other side of the lake, 5 mins at bag check/security, then I'd set off a good 40 minutes before rope-drop. With rope-drop starting just after 7:40am (for an 8am official opening time) then I'd leave AoA at 7am-ish.

It'll be quicker if you took the Disney bus from AoA. It goes straight from the resort to the entrance of MK. You therefore skip the parking and ferry. It'll only take about 25 mins plus bag check.

Edited at 04:19 PM. Reason: Didn't realise OP said park opened at 8am, not 9am

I would grab the MK bus from your resort (which cuts out parking and the ferry part of your journey) at around 7..gives you 25mins to get there and get through Bag inspection (which shouldnt be 'too' bad first thing but allow 15mins).
If your there for 20 to 8 you should be fine.
Get there early for the bus as it is amazing how many other people have the same idea!

Factor in the ridiculous bag/security check which could take a while if there are lots of guests arriving at the same time, especially guests with rather large back packs😬😬

And as for that stupid thing of pulling the odd guest out to go through a scanner. Sorry the whole thing is absolutely ridiculous!

Admittedly, I've not been to rope drop recently, but it only took us a couple of minutes to go through bag check / security the few times that we did.

It's not like everyone arrives there at exactly the same time. People will start turning up at the front of MK from around 7am onwards for an 8am opening. So there's a steady stream of people just like there is during the rest of the morning.

However, taking into account that the security measures are more robust now, I'll increase my estimate to 15 mins, for a total of 50 mins from leaving AoA to getting in front of MK's train station. So best leaving AoA at 6:45am if travelling by car.

Sorry. Just read the OPs post again.

Yeah, if the park opens at 8am (not 9am as I first thought) then you need to get on the bus around 7am - as above.

Oops.

As others have mentioned - go as EARLY AS YOU CAN!

We went once with what we thought was plenty of time, and missed it by 10 mins. Had to get up even earlier the next day!
