The pain is unbearable now.
She also added that it would need to be taken out by a specialist as the gum may need opening up so I don’t just want to book with another dentist as it’s unlikely they could help..?
I had a tooth out recently and the dentist cut my gum maybe ring and mention to the surgery to ask for dentist with more experience to see if can help. Mine was done by emergency nhs

If she couldn’t get it out doesn’t make her a bad dentist especially if you say the wisdom tooth was in the way. Everyone is different and some people it can be more difficult to take teeth out than others
The OP stated in her first post that the dentist struggled to remove the tooth then reffering to the X-ray it showed the wisdom tooth underneath , now the way I read it it appeared that an X-ray was done before the struggle of getting it out , I could be wrong as the wording is a bit confusing but if the X-ray was done prior to the attempted removal then surely the dentist should have spotted it and not attempted removal herself .
Only the dentist would know if they could be facing problems so without all the facts I agree that it may not be the dentist at fault but the patient should never have been sent away without enough information as to when the problem will be resolved .
OP I hope you get some relief soon , the pain must be awful and I hope you get some answers too as to the circumstances surrounding the problem .

If she is still in pain should be going back to the dentist and ask for an urgent referral. I would have thought the nearest oral surgery dept should be seeing her urgently. However sometimes on X-rays teeth can look simple enough but turn out to be really difficult. Also X-rays are only 2d and sometimes you can’t always tell the angle of something

A little update:
My partner called my dentist several times asking for an emergency referral, insisting I cannot wait weeks and need to be seen today. Each time she was told the dentist was either in surgery or the system was down. She must have called approx 10 times just this morning. In the mean time we got the name of the referral surgery so spoke with them, they booked us a preliminary appointment for this afternoon whilst waiting for the referral to come through.
My dentist finally text me 10 mins before my surgery appointment with a referral patient number as I was walking towards the surgery!
The surgery were fantastic, kind and compassionate.
Unfortunately the referral still hadn’t gone through fully by the time I got there for my appointment.
I was offered the tooth extraction at £250 or I could come back when they had fully received the referral which would “probably be Friday”.
I have been in so much pain due to my failed extraction that I had to have the extraction today, I need it to heal ASAP to have a chance of enjoying my trip next week.
The dental surgeon seemed quite shocked when he saw the state of my mouth. He said my gum had been crushed by my dentist and is black and blue. Not to mention the cuts and brusies at the corner of my mouth caused by the dentist pulling me around yesterday!
I was trying to hold back the tears and very very nervous due to yesterday’s treatment but he was very reassuring.
I had a couple of X-rays, 2 injections and he proceeded to remove it, which took him no longer than 3 minutes.
Which leaves me wondering why I was put through such an ordeal yesterday.
I’m very sore at the moment, not long got home but resting.

I paid £250 to have the emergency removal today.
Yesterday morning, this tooth wasn’t causing much pain, I could live with it for quite a while longer until it needed removal by a competent dentist so naturally I am quite angry about this.
I don’t feel I should be out of pocket because my dentist took so long to send my referral over (25 hours after my appointment).
I think I may have to take this further when I’m feeling better.
Very glad the tooth is now out, here’s hoping the damaged gum heals quickly.

Oh I'm glad to hear you got it removed successfully today. I think I would definitely put in a complaint to your original dentist once you feel up to it.

I read your thread this morning on my way to work - then wished I hadn't as I'm due to have one removed soon! Are you having an implant or just leaving the gap?

I hope it heals quickly and you have a fab holiday x

Glad you’ve got it sorted, but it does sound as though you have been on the receiving end of some quite incompetent dentistry. From your description, the dentist you saw today didn’t seem to use any specialist equipment nor any extraordinary skill - just doing what a dentist should do.
I would certainly pursue a complaint, firstly with the dentist (through the surgeriy’s complaints procedure) and then with the primary care trust if not satisfied. I would also be looking for a new dentist.

I’m so pleased to hear your update.

I had an upper tiny “peg”wisdom tooth out a few days before a holiday last year. Came out in seconds, but my dentist gave me antibiotics but only to take away with me in case of any problems. I wasn’t to take them otherwise. But he was understanding of me not wanting to have any problems after while being so far from home. Never needed them but I was glad to know I had them in case needed. Would that be something you could ask for and take away with you if needed.

I’d also be looking to claim the £250 back from the original dentist.

Plus on return looking for a new local dentist which has good reviews.

At least now you don’t have the worry of the tooth going away next week.

Thank you.
My dentist wants to see me for a review tomorrow and she mentioned giving me antibiotics so I’ll ask again.
Thanks for the well wishes.

I’m glad it’s out now. Take care of your mouth. I’m still not eating properly (I’m thinking of weight loss haha). I’m paranoid about getting bits in it so I’m nibbling with my front teeth and quickly swallowing.
I'm still feeling a bit miserable as it aches when the pain relief runs out. Your mouth will be even more painful, I should think

I found this website very useful for after treatment.

Must be such a relief to have it out, I certainly would be claiming the money back from your dentist and then finding a different surgery, antibiotics for your hol (in case ) would certainly be a good idea.
