Child car seat hire
Has anyone hired car sets from the rental companies directly?
My daughter is 26kg and 120cm so would require a booster seat. Some places are coming out as £56-60 for the 2 weeks. Is it something I can pick up from Walmart or do I have to have one upon leaving the airport? Many thanks |

Not sure about the law other than my 3yr old requires one. I have hired one before and will be again this week. Some take the view you don't know the seat history or they are dirty. I take the view that the one I have rented was clean and if I take my own who knows how much the baggage handlers have dropped it. I work in an airport and often walk through baggage handlers area so have seen many a bag get THROWN.
Alamo for example won't fit the seat in case they get sued for injury. I think the same would apply if seat could be shown to have damage pre accident. I don't know for sure but would assume they are checked. In fact if I remember I will take a look on Friday to see if their is any indication of checks. I think there is a maximum of $70 before tax for car seat rental. |

Child seat laws in Florida are:
Children 5 years old or younger must be secured in a federally approved child restraint system: Children 3 years old and younger must use a separate car-seat or the vehicle's built-in child seat. ... Children under 18 years old must be in a seatbelt Saying that we take a Trunkie Boostapak which is a rucksack and a child seat booster. Pretty neat and it comes on the plane with our stuff in it. Wallmart sell plenty of booster seats for little cost

We also do the Trunkie boostapack as it can be used on multiple trips and used as hand luggage. The only problem we have had is when my daughter over-fills hers and then cannot carry it herself without toppling backwards so my husband usually ends up with a Hello Kitty boostapack on his back through the airport...! Makes him easy to locate though!

OP. Take your own, cheaper and if they break it they pay for a new one.
Plus you can't get to Walmart without one.

OK. Joint enterprise. You pay for my Condo, I will spend every afternoon in the airport hiring out seats. That profit we split 50/50. Deal?

This is what we did, got them from Mothercare for £30 each and left them in the car on the way home. Used the extra space in the suitcases for shopping.

Smyths are selling one for £8. Definitely got to be worth putting in suitcase and leaving it behind for that price.

According to the Orlando Sentinel, "children must ride in a crash-tested, federally approved car seat or booster seat until they turn 6".
I just wonder were you would stand with the federally approved bit if you took your own, bought a cheap one over here or used a Trunkie Boostapak. Luckily I don't need to worry about it any-more, but I thought it's a point worth rising for those who do. EDIT A little further research show this as the answer to a query raised in 2013: Hello, The UK made Trunki's are safety approved for use in the UK and Europe. However, the various states in the USA have different legislations and requirements. This is why we have developed a US version of the BoostApak alongside Safety1st. To be absolutely sure, we advise you to contact the local authority of the state that you are travelling to. I hope that helps Trunki Team Edited at 02:30 PM. |
