Tube takes longer but if you want Piccadilly Circus, Leicester Square etc it takes you right there and is cheap.
Paddington is quick but then you would have to change to where you want to go.

Have frequently travelled by train to Heathrow, ditched the cases at the hotel then caught the tube back into London. It is so easy and a fair bit of the journey is not actually underground but overground which can be interesting if you are not familiar with the area. The tube as already mentioned goes into the more touristy and shopping areas.

Look at a tube map and decide where you want to go.
Paddington Station is lovely to go through but if not bothered the tube gives more options. There are times when it is quicker to walk A to B than on the tube, eg Leicester Square to Covent Garden is quicker on foot

Yes! This was me!
I was so nervous about it, but as pompeyboy says it worked perfectly. Thanks to all the help I had here I must say. We caught the bus from bath road, a little further along than you in the premier. We were in the Marriott. Went into Heathrow central bus station, got on the tube, all the way to Piccadilly Circus. So easy, and it didn’t seem that long at all. |

I used to like booking with BA to fly via London so that I could head into London for a few hours on transit. Usually had around 6-8 hours for the transit, so I would head from Heathrow into central London, wander around a bit, shop a bit, then head back to Heathrow.
I've tried this with both the Heathrow Express and the Tube and find I prefer the Tube because it goes straight to the areas of London I like wandering around and shopping at (Piccadilly Circus, Harrods, Regent Street, and easy access/transfer to get to Oxford Street) and is much cheaper than the Heathrow Express!

I’d just get the tube. It goes straight to places like Piccadilly Circus and Covent Garden. I love Covent Garden, and from there you could walk to the river and see the Houses of Parliament and London eye, and maybe catch a boat trip.
