Will you lot please stop trying to cost the OP money

We were having a few issues with our Sky Q box and put off getting it changed as we didn't want to lose series links or recordings, honestly, within a week we'd got everything we needed back on series link and it's no bother.

Sky Q boxes are rented from Sky so they're replaced if they cannot be fixed. We had an engineer come out within 24 hours of me phoning. He was a lovely guy and he replaced the main Sky Q box, the HDMI cables for the mini boxes, swapped to new style remotes for the mini boxes and swapped and moved the dish. This cost us absolutely nothing! I couldn't fault the service and having a new box was a minor inconvenience that I wish I'd sorted sooner.

Thanks everyone, I will try and ring them at weekend and see where I get. Thanks Duchy I hate ringing them at the best of times, its always such a major faff and ordeal!

We defo don't want to upgrade to sky q, and we don't want a new box (we have our reasons!)

Its not recordings that we don't want to lose, its the ports on the box itself. I just want someone to check out the dish and the signal. It is on the side of the house and very exposed to weather so who knows. I know when you get a storm its expected to perhaps get interrupted, but just a rain shower will turn off several of the channels to having no signal... a few... certainly not many but it is still frustrating if u are watching ones that are flaky!

You are right most stuff can be replaced , it’s old stuff kept for sentimental reasons that are trickier. I had a guy the other week who had recordings of programmes he had appeared in .
I suggested he checked to see if anyone had posted those episodes onto YouTube …….and they had

If your dish is reasonably accessible, it is reasonably straightforward to do it yourself.
When I moved house I needed to install a new dish. Bought one of these and it worked well.

I remember when Sky replaced our very first dish many many years ago I sent my Son to school with it converted to a shield complete with bolted on wooden handles. It was all to do with a Roman theme they were doing.

He thought he was the business with his home made shield and a sword out of 2 x 1 timber to go with it.

Tom was recycling 23 years ago!

We have a Sky Q box, & we were getting signal loss on some channels due to trees outside our house.
The guy came out & recommended the dish being fixed to the chimney, & a couple of days later two guys came out & fitted a brand new dish on the chimney, fixed the signal loss problem & no charge.

Of course if you move it yourself and mess it up Sky won’t touch it with a barge pole so not something to try if you don’t know exactly what you are doing
