They must have changed the T&Cs because it used to be with Hertz that when you modified a booking there was a box ticked that said “keep original rate” or something. I modified several bookings over the years and often paid less.

To be fair, this is the policy of all the car hire companies. If you want to change anything (pick up time, date, pick up place) you have to cancel and rebook. It’s always been this way.

If you want to change the time only, then you just leave it, as it doesn’t matter so long as the date and pick up place stays the same.

Yes that’s probably true. I’ve only ever changed the car type.

We were going round in circles and it ended up getting quite heated so i hung up. She told me to just turn up on the day and explain what i want to do. By then they would've charged my card and sold the car to someone else...

I literally don't know what to do, their customer service is shocking and if I cancel my car online, the new prices are in the £1500 range for an extremely bog standard car.

Does anyone know where i can actually explain the situation and try and get it resolved or will i be banging my head against a brick wall with them? Ive tried messaging them on FB and Twitter i'm just waiting now

I don't know why you feel you need to use Hertz. If you don't like them then go for another provider. If the car you want is unavailable you have the choice to choose another one or go for another car rental company - simple.

Oh I wouldnt worry, with all the new covid checks you will spend longer in the airport anyway...

My advice? Look to see if you can rebook from "somewhere other than the airport" and factor in the cost of uber transfer vs a shorter rental.
