John Wayne Airport to DisneyLand? Or stick with LAX?

Hi - Just did a search on flights from NYC to Los Angeles (as part of a bigger tour) and I saw one that I didnt recognise, John Wayne Airport, for half the price of LAX!

Would this be beneficial to get for transfers to the Grand Californian, it seems it is 14 miles away, rather than 34 miles from LAX, and I know how bad LA traffic is.

Is there any catch to this, or was it a lucky find?!

Thanks.

Many Americans use John Wayne Airport to Disneyland / Anaheim. Its not a catch, its a regional airport for domestic routes, not international routes The flights are cheaper the same way Luton is cheaper than Heathrow.

I flew in/out of this airport (SNA/John Wayne) in 2012, after reading that this was a better airport to use if going to Disneyland than LAX. I just used Super Shuttle to get from SNA to the Disneyland area and it worked out pretty well.

On my more recent trip in 2018 we flew in/out of LAX, which was definitely much further away. Didn't really have a choice though due to flight prices and routes!

I'm not sure what the transportation situation is like right now though. But basically SNA is definitely closer to Disneyland and I'd definitely prefer flying there than LAX based on my experience with the two airports just due to the closer proximity!

Supershuttle went out of business in 2020. Apparently someone else took the name and set up a new website but I have heard of anyone using them.

The shared ride companies have stopped doing shared rides and are now one party only. As a result the prices have increased. You have to contact them individually for a quote for each planned journey.

Approx cost from LAX to Anaheim is $120

The ones which get the best reviews are

Prime Time
Lanskys
Karmel
Midwilshuttle
Affordable Limousine Company
Sav On Shuttle

Uber and Lyft are very popular but they have surge pricing.

There are also taxis outside John Wayne / SNA which people have used.

Thanks everyone, I will snap it up. First class EWR to LAX was $1096, but to SNA was $696. I have a electronic voucher to use up of $1100 each (cancelled COVID flight from last year), so that saving will pay for the next leg of holiday, internal flight LA to Vegas.

I will snap those tickets up quick! Thanks again.

And thanks for those shuttle details - I will need them as we will have 2/3 nights on to Santa Monica beech from Disney, so I can compare prices on those. Thank you!

I would take SNA over LAX any day. Smaller airport and closer to Anaheim. Win win.

I was very impressed with SNA and, would take it over LAX anytime.. Which is a dump. I don't think you can get a, taxi or uber at lax without getting on a shuttle first now to an approved area. They stopped pick ups from the terminal... That's enough to put me off.

The traffic in LA and LAX can be horrible too... It eases as you get to Disney so from SNA it's a more predictable ride.

We have flown into John Wayne from Vancouver to visit Disneyland. A much better option than LAX and a much quicker ride. Not sure about transfer options now though because when did it we used the Disney busses and I don't think they still operate.
