concerned about love bugs - how annoying are they?
we fly out on Tuesday and it is sounding like the lovebugs are starting to emerge. Unfortunately I didn't find out about them until i'd booked our September holiday and I am now panicking they will ruin the holiday.
Whereas I know they aren't dirty & they don't bite I really don't like insects at all. :-( |

I found they were worst when lying by the pool, in the parks I didn't notice them as much. I didn't like them but they are harmless as you say.

When we were there they flew quite high up so it wasn't really a problem xxx I hate bugs too, but We were fine x

Wasn't too bad
Hi there,
We went in Sept two years ago and found out about love bugs. They weren't too bad. They were only really around one day that we noticed (on way into Hollywood Studios in the parking lot) - when we got into the parks we were fine. There were a small few by the pool but not many at all-it really wasn't too bad (and I have a massive phobia of flying insects). They really aren't too annoying-they were really focussing on each other rather than people around them. If you find they get bad at all maybe look to get sun tan lotion with insect repellant in? They weren't too bad though. Hope this helps

Im over here at the moment and i have only seen a few about. There harmless but last year in october there was a load but to be honest i would rather have lovebugs then wasps, hornets and bees! They shouldnt ruin your holiday as they didnt for us.

I didn't realise they came out this late in the year, we have been looking at out options for 2015, liking the idea of may, but have heard they can be quite bad then!
I've never experienced them but will watch this thread with interest. I sure loads of dibbers will have plenty of advice and experience! Kermit, when you mention pool, is this the pools at the resorts? Do the pool enclosures at villas keep them out

They are bizarre looking, which I think is what bothers most people...a two headed insect flying around is a bit worrying!
But they really aren't that bad and having had an allergic reaction to a mosquito bite out there last October when the love bugs were gone (went black and covered the entire back of my thigh and knee, which then wouldn't bend), I think they are wonderful!
