Cats meowing in the night!

Our cat doesn’t meow but he scrabbles and bangs at the door until one of us gets up!
We have to get him into a good sleep routine and then he is better!
If we let him up in the night he is so pleased to see us he literally lies on our faces and when he’s happy he starts to dribble so we don’t let him come up! He come up in a Morning though when we are all getting ready

One of our cats does this. He comes through the cat flap and when he finds downstairs empty he yowles, really loudly and carries on crying all the time he is downstairs and running up. Stops when he hears or see's one of us. I think he just calls to see where everyone is. I thought it was just a night-time thing but I was alone in the house and thought I would have a quiet bath and realised he was doing exactly the same as he thought the house was empty.
