I was in when the maid came to do our full clean. MrToMorrow you can use this on the wife 😉 she was in a total of 15 minutes. In that time she stripped the bed and remade, quick hover, ran the tub full and shoved some chemical in it and emptied. Then a quick scrub of the loo. If they are doing 4 rooms per hour (hypothetically) and people tip on average 3 dollars then their hourly pay would be circa $27. That’s more than we pay our hard working nurses! No way will I tip based on the huge pile of dust that is covering the tv unit and the fact I keep it clean myself! She was very nice and we did have a chat but they are getting paid more than is required for an ‘entry level’ job.

Wow I used to tip $2 a day (solo occupancy), but I guess I won't in September for my next trip!

I've never tipped housekeeping but one time I left a couple of dollars on towel/trash day with a note asking for extra decaff coffee. Housekeeper took the money but left no coffee, haha!
Not sure I would know what constitutes exceptional service either - I just expect my room to be clean! |

We were on a Hawaiian cruise last year. On the day of our anniversary they made the towels into swans formed into a heart, arranged our anniversary cards around them and decorated them with leis! We tipped extra at the end of that week. :-)
Edit: Just adding that that was one example of what I considered exceptional service that week. I felt like we were treated as individuals, rather than someone just cleaned our room. Edited at 05:45 PM. |

Never Tip house keeping anywhere in the world so why would I do it at Disney?
The whole tipping thing is out of control in the US, I just hope the UK doesn’t follow this madness. You pay more than enough for a Disney vacation as it is. |

Four years ago DD did the ICP and worked at Turtle Talk and Nemo and Friends for the summer, doing the antisocial hours and working hard but loving every minute of it. She was paid $8 an hour, she had to pay Disney for her accommodation and her wages covered her food and accommodation but not her flights. As international workers they didn't qualify for the Florida minimum wage so were paid less than all other positions.
She doesn't regret it for a minute but when people go on about how poorly housekeeping were paid I think they had no idea how badly some of the CMs are paid too and they won't get tips!

Have never tipped mouse keeping and always get the bill changed at restaurants to give $20 tip as a maximum for good service. The amount of money that waiting staff get for serving food is nothing short of a joke. I understand they work hard, but as others have said, at 10 table an hour, even $20 per table is ridiculous.
It's the same in the UK now though - we went to The Ivy in Manchester - lovely meal, nice setting, nice service that you'd expect - bill was just over £500 for 6 of us (including lots of drinks) but then they added £75 tip to it! Ridiculous. Safe to say, it got knocked down.
