Government has 'repurposed' our Gatwick hotel!
Had an email this morning saying the UK Government has 'repurposed' the entire Sandman Hotel at Gatwick, so our stay on 15 February and parking is cancelled!
Have had full refund vouchers from Holiday Extras and rebooked alternative, but very annoying. I thought all this was over ... perhaps they're actually having a massive party with overnight stay!

Maybe they are using to house asylum seekers rather than Covid related quarantine. I know of a couple of hotels in my area that are being used to house people that have come over here seeking asylum.

Quite a few of the Heathrow hotels are being used for Asylum seekers so I’d imagine it’s the same at Gatwick. Not sure why when we have a perfectly good immigration centre on the Bath Road!

The Crowne Plaza at Heathrow is still being used to house asylum seekers, we get a lot come into work with the hotel address as point of contact (hospital) so it’s not just covid hotels. Glad you got a refund & hope you can rebook x

Such a shame. I used to work in the Crowne Plaza. Lovely hotel. Apparently it’s now trashed! 😔

They’ve repurposed a huge hotel/venue in our town, all weddings etc cancelled, one couple had 3 days notice of cancellation!

At least they told you… we turned up at the Novotel Heathrow at 7pm the night before our flight in November and thought we were on an episode of Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway when the security guard cheerily told us the hotel was closed!
